White Birch Paper Company Announces Downtime

Greenwich, Connecticut, USA, 02 March 2009 -- /PRNewswire/ -- White Birch Paper Company announced today that it will take market-related downtime at its Bear Island mill in Ashland, Virginia. The planned shut-down will take place from 08 through 30 March 2009 and will result in approximately 15,000 metric tons of reduced newsprint production.

White Birch will maintain adequate inventories to ensure that its customers will not experience any service interruptions during the shut-downs. Also announced on March 13, it will take market-related downtime at its Stadacona L.P. Division in Quebec City, Quebec. The planned shutdown will take place from 20 March through 06 April 2009, and will result in approximately 30,000 metric tons of reduced newsprint production. 

White Birch Paper Company is the second largest newsprint manufacturer in North America, with approximately 1.25 million metric tons of uncoated groundwood production capacity. In addition to newsprint, White Birch produces uncoated specialty paper, directory paper, and paperboard at its mills located in Quebec City, Riviere-du-Loup, and Gatineau, Quebec, Canadaand Ashland, Virginia.
