Weyerhaeuser to Reduce Production at iLevel Facility in Georgia, USA
Print
Colbert, Georgia, USA, 22 January 2007 — Weyerhaeuser announced today that it will reduce production at its iLevel™ Veneer Technologies facility in Colbert, Georgia, effective immediately. The announcement will affect approximately 25 hourly positions at the site and will eliminate one of four operating shifts.

Demand for engineered wood products has declined due to a slowdown in the housing market. As a result of these challenging market conditions, the Colbert facility will adjust production to meet customer orders for the remainder of the year.

Affected associates will receive full pay for 60 days, severance based on years of service, and an additional three months of subsidized health care after separation.

"Against the backdrop of industry-wide market challenges for wood products the company will not need the full production from the Colbert facility during 2007," said Lee Sneed, unit general manager at the facility.

"We recognize the hard work and dedication by the team this year," Sneed said. "Weyerhaeuser's employees work diligently to make our mills competitive and today's announcement is a reflection of the challenging business environment we face. We recognize the impact of this curtailment on our associates and the Colbert community, and we will do our best to work with state and local leaders to assist in the transition."

In Georgia, Weyerhaeuser employs approximately 1500 people at locations in Colbert, Columbus, Dacula, Duluth, Griffin, Tucker, Lithonia, Lyons, Madison, Oglethorpe, Port Wentworth, and Valdosta.
