Voith Paper Automation to Modernize Controls at Mondi Frohnleiten

Heidenheim, Germany, 27 May 2008 -- Mondi Frohnleiten GmbH has awarded the modernization of the machine control on the PM 1 at its facilities in Frohnleiten, Austria, to Voith Paper Automation.

The current machine control is made up of S5 as well as S7/PCS7 components and will be converted by Voith Paper Automation stepwise to PCS7. The conversion will replace the S5 system to insure the availability of spare parts for the coming years. The new system also will improve quality standards, based on optimized process monitoring and unified, convenient operation of the entire, PCS7-based system.

The project will be carried out in two phases. In the first step, scheduled for June 2008, the system will be converted from S5 components to S7. In the second step, which has yet to be awarded, the system will be upgraded to PCS7 components and integration into existing S7 and PCS7 systems.

The paper mill in Frohnleiten was founded in 1884 and is known for the development and production of premium products using the most modern of papermaking technology. The mill became part of the Mondi Group in January 2004. The facility has more than 100 employees and annuallu produces more than 170,000 tons of special products based on testliner board and corrugated media on the PM 1 and PM 2 machines.
