The pulp and paper mill in an EMP event
Comment Print

In the 1 May 14 edition of the Thompson Private Letter (you can subscribe at our Paperitalo Store)  I discussed what will happen in a pulp and paper mill in the case of an EMP event.  EMP is Electro Magnetic Pulse.  I won’t go into the details here, but this is an event that will take down the power grid for a very long time—only months if we are lucky.

To cut to the chase, however, the issue is this.  Pulp and Paper mills, those with both thermal and electrical generation capabilities, will be oases of light and power in an otherwise dark world.  This will be both good and bad.

The good is that these mills will be able to help their communities if they are prepared to do so.  The bad is they will be targets exposed to at least great mischief by roving hordes of hungry armed individuals.

This is no wild-eyed survivalist scenario.  The US Federal Government thinks this is a real threat and they are working diligently on it—with their usual definition of “diligently.”  The opportunities to serve as well as threat of great harm to your assets are both very real.

The question is what are you doing about it?
