Print
Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada, 02 November 2009 – Tembec today confirmed that a fire occurred at its sawmill in Canal Flats, British Columbia. The fire was discovered at 10:30 p.m. on 31 October and was quickly contained. Damage was restricted to the area housing the control center for the sorting area of the mill. No injuries or environmental issues resulted from the fire.

Initial estimates indicate that the sawmill will be down for approximately two weeks and that the cost to repair fire-related damage will be less than CAD 500,000. This will be confirmed following a more detailed review over the next couple of days. Employees will be advised as information becomes available.

Tembec thanks the fire brigades from the communities of Canal Flats and Fairmont for their prompt response, and site employees who also responded.
