Stora Enso to Close Kopparfors Sawmill in Sweden
Print
Helsinki, Finland, 21 June 2011 -- Stora Enso's co-determination negotiations at Kopparfors sawmill in Sweden have been concluded. On 22 March 2011, Stora Enso announced plans for permanent closure of Kopparfors sawmill and pellet mill by the end of 2011. The main reason for the planned closure has not changed: Kopparfors is loss-making, with no significant prospect of improvement. Kopparfors sawmill and the pellet mill will therefore be permanently closed down by the end of 2011.

“Now that the decision has been taken, we will strive to find individual options for every employee in close cooperation with the local community and authorities. This will take time, but our target is clear: to help every employee affected by the closure to find reemployment options. We will now also continue to look for other businesses to utilise the mill site. We have already had some contacts which we can now analyse further,” said Hannu Kasurinen, executive vice president, Stora Enso Wood Products.

Kopparfors sawmill has an annual production capacity of 310,000 cubic meters of sawnwood. The pellet mill has an annual capacity of 160,000 metric tons. The sawmill and pellet mill have 110 employees.

Stora Enso is the global rethinker of the packaging, paper, and wood products industry, offering customers innovative solutions based on renewable materials. Stora Enso employs some 26,000 people worldwide. Sales in 2010 amounted to EUR 10.3 billion. Stora Enso shares are listed on NASDAQ OMX Helsinki (STEAV, STERV) and Stockholm (STE A, STE R). In addition, the shares are traded in the USA as ADRs (SEOAY) in the International OTCQX over-the-counter market.
