Södra Continues to Expand
Print

Stockholm, Sweden 19 August 2015 -- The delivery of the new de-barking drums* represents another milestone in Södra´s expansion project. The new de-barking drums features the latest technology, thereby enabling Södra's market-ready pulp to maintain a high degree of purity. The new equipment is expected to result in lower bark content and reduced wood losses.

The de-barking drum in Värö has been manufactured by Valmet in Tallinn, Estonia, and is 40 meters in length, approximately 5.5 meters in diameter and weighs 350 tonnes. In terms of the production process, the new de-barking drum will be positioned parallel with the existing de-barking drum to handle the wood volume necessary to enable Värö's capacity expansion.

The two de-barking drums in Mörrum are also manufactured by Valmet in Tallinn, Estonia, and are 35 meters in length approximately 5.5 meters in diameter and weighs 350 tonnes each. Start up of the new de-barking drums is estimated during mid March 2016.

*The de-barking drum removes the bark from incoming logs and forms a step in the process of producing paper pulp.
