RockTenn is Closing Cincinnati, Ohio Facility

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA 30 October 2014 -- (Cincinnati Enquirer) -- A Georgia-based manufacturer is shutting down its Oakley paperboard production facility by year's end and shedding 63 jobs.

Officials from Norcross, Georgia-based RockTenn Co. told employees that the Cincinnati Mill plant at 3347 Madison Road will be shuttered, said spokeswoman Robin Keegan. RockTenn is one of North America's largest integrated manufacturers of corrugated and consumer packaging.

"This is in no way a reflection on employees," Keegan said. "They've done a fabulous job. The closure is based on market conditions.

Keegan said the plant is closing because it would need environmental upgrades to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's updated clean air standards on industrial boilers. Keegan said the requirements to bring the facility in compliance would be "quite expensive."

The plant has been operation since the 1940s and it was one of the oldest in RockTenn's system. It is also one of the smallest production facilities within the system, making up to 53,000 tons of recycled paperboard annually.
