Montreal, Quebec, Canada 15 January 2014 -- The last remaining section of the Fort Frances Mill has been idled, indefinitely.

Resolute Forest Products announced it intends to close down paper machine No. 5 by the end of January, laying off about 150 workers.

Sixty employees will stay on to secure the company's assets as Resolute repositions its options.

The layoffs come two months after 50 employees lost their jobs when the company shuttered paper machine No. 7.

Kraft pulp production at the mill was eliminated in February of 2012.

Resolute officials cite market conditions as the reason for the shutdown, which will last at least through the first business quarter of 2014.

Paper machine No. 5 produced 97,000 metric tonnes of groundwood annually, which is commonly used in books, magazines and advertising.
