Raven Biofuels Hires Sandwell to Evaluate Biofuels Project
Print
Atlanta, Georgia, USA, 01 January 2010 - (Marketwire) - Raven Biofuels International Corporation (Pinksheets:RVBF - News), through its Canadian Development Partner, Raven Biofuels Ltd (RBL) and Joint Venture Partner, The Kamloops Indian Band (KIB), has hired Sandwell Engineering in conjunction with the Tk'emlups Biorefinery Project.

Sandwell has been engaged to review and assess the technology and process which has been developed and tested to date for dilute acid hydrolysis of wood to produce certain "green chemicals" and ethanol. Sandwell is assessing the applicability of this process to lodge pole pine which has been killed by the mountain pine beetle and reviewing the application of process equipment technology to a practical, functional production plant. Sandwell is also considering new design applications in which a biorefinery could be integrated into a kraft pulp mill.

Sandwell is reviewing all technology documentation provided by Raven and discussing the findings with specialists who are advisors to Raven that were involved in extensive pilot scale testing and research on this technology. This will form a report to identify areas that require further focus for the final engineering package. Sandwell's findings on furfural and ethanol yields from lodge pole pine, benefits of integrating with existing pulp mills, and suggestions on further improvements will require further development during subsequent phases of this project. Further lab testing or pilot plant runs will be required to confirm design criteria parameters for commercial development of the refinery.

Sandwell is a leading global engineering contractor in bulk materials handling, ports and marine, rail, power, petroleum, industrial process, manufacturing, and general building. The company is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that enable clients to build and maintain competitive advantage. Sandwell has received numerous awards for innovation and excellence in pulp mill design, oil drilling structures, coal handling and port facilities, bridge design and construction, and environmental and pollution abatement.

Raven Biofuels is a clean energy technology company focused on developing technologies to produce transportation fuels and green chemicals from waste or biomass. Raven plans to build integrated biorefineries using proprietary technology.
