Production Currently Down at IP in India


Andhra Pradesh, India 24 August 2016 -- A strike at International Paper's Rahjamundry mill in India has led to a production stoppage which is lasting for almost two weeks now. Ths site prouces printing and writing paper.

International Paper APPM, the Indian subsidiary of International Paper, has halted production of printing and writing paper at its Rahjamundry mill in the state of Andhra Pradesh. According to the company, this occurred because of an "illegal and unjustified strike" carried out by workers on 10 August. Since the workers "did not resume their duties in spite of repeated requests from the management", the company was forced to shut down operations in Rajahmundry on 11 August, International Paper said in a release. A company spokesman confirmed to EUWID on 22 August that production had still not resumed, but declined to provide further details.

International Paper APPM describes itself as one of the largest pulp and paper producers in India. The company, in which International Paper acquired a 75% stake in 2011, makes printing and writing paper as well as copy paper at its two mills in Rajahmundry and Kadiyam, both in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The total capacity of the firm, which has 2,500 employees, is 240,000 tpy. The products are sold on the domestic market as well as export markets.
