Richmond, British Columbia, Canada 18 February 2014 -- Paper Excellence is set to acquire Tembec's Chetwynd pulp mill in Canada. The site has an annual capacity of 240,000 t of hardwood BCTMP.

Paper Excellence is continuing its shopping spree in Canada. The group is said to have now set its sights on the Tembec high-yield pulp mill in Chetwynd / British Columbia. On 7 February, Canada's trade union Unifor reported that the sale of the Tembec mill to Paper Excellence Canada Holding was expected to be completed in the spring 2014 and that following the sale "the mill would start up again".

Tembec confirmed to EUWID it had a conditional sale agreement with Paper Excellence to sell the Chetwynd pulp mill and that the deal was subject to a due diligence review. The company expected to issue a press release with specific details on the sale within the next few weeks. Paper Excellence was not available for a comment on the Chetwynd pulp mill deal by the time this issue went to press.

The Chetwynd pulp mill can produce hardwood BCTMP in a high-yield process and has a production capacity of 240,000 tpy. Production has been standing still since September 2012. Paper Excellence has purchased several mills from Tembec in the past, amongst them the two French Tarascon and Saint Gaudens pulp mills.
