Print

Kajaani, Finland 24 November 2016 -- Kaicell puts the total wood requirements at 2.5 million m³ of softwood.

Kaicell Fibers, a joint venture company created by the regional council of Kainuu and NC Capital Partners, is pushing forward with its plans to construct a pulp and bioproducts production plant in the Kainuu region. The company announced that it has decided to develope the facility with a Paltamo municipality on a 208 ha plot of land that was acquired for this purpose by the Paltamo municipality in summer. The company has originally considered three alternative sites for the project: Kajaani, Paltamo and Suomussalmi.

The mill would produce some 400-500,000 tpy of kraft pulp as well additional bio-based products. According to NC Partnering, new products will be cultivated by anchor-operators from the various side-streams that the new facility will make available to bio-stakeholders. Kaicell Fibers is said to benefit from the raw material potential of the Kainuu region. The company puts the total wood requirements at 2.5 million m³ of softwood.

Production is planned to commence in 2020. "The Kaicell project is taking next steps towards feasibility study and environmental impact assessment," the company announced on 22 November.
