International Paper Buys Sheet Manufacturing Operation


Aurora, Illinois, USA 07 September 2015 -- (From the Chicago Tribune) -- International Paper announced the purchase of the Cano Container Corporation's sheet manufacturing operation in Aurora.

Cano Container operates its facility at 3920 Enterprise Court on the far East Side. International Paper is a global manufacturer of packaging and paper with operations in North America, Europe, Latin America, Russia, Asia and North Africa.

Its businesses include industrial and consumer packaging along with uncoated papers and pulp. It's headquartered in Memphis, Tenn.

"International Paper and Cano will continue a strategic relationship to serve Cano Container customers," said Tracy Ahola, International Paper's regional general manager, Northern Illinois Region. "Moreover, acquiring Cano's sheet operation enhances our offering to customers in the Midwest, and further supports our growth plan across our Illinois region."

Cano Container Corporation was established in 1986 with facilities in Aurora and Southern California.

Rick Ouellette, a spokesman for International Paper, said the company is "pleased with the purchase" of the Aurora facility. He said the company plans to continue serving Cano's customers from the Aurora facility.

As to whether there will be any changes in Aurora, he said it's "too early in the process to talk about ..."
