Hamburger Rieger to Build New Machine for Recycled Containerboard
Spremberg, Germany 01 March 2018 -- More recycled corrugated case material capacities are to come. Hamburger Rieger will install a new 500,000 tpy PM at its German site in Spremberg.
Austria's Prinzhorn Holding is taking further action to reach its ambitious expansion goal which consists in doubling in size by 2030. The group's subsidiary Hamburger Rieger has officially announced plans to build a second recycled containerboard machine at the Spremberg mill in Germany. The possibility of such a move had already been insinuated in autumn last year. Now the company said that the start of construction of the machine had been approved and would begin in March this year. The new PM's commissioning is scheduled for summer 2020. The investment volume was put at €370m.
According to Hamburger, the new machine will produce brown and white-top testliner based on 100% recycled paper with a capacity of 500,000 tpy. It will have a width of 7.8 m. The company also plans to install a deinking section which is used for the production of white-top testliner.
Hamburger said that a successful development at the location and a continuously growing market had led to the decision to expand the Spremberg site. "Paper Machine 2 will allow us to further strengthen our 'leadership in white' positioning to more than one million tonnes of white corrugated base paper per year," said Harald Ganster, Managing Director of Hamburger Containerboard.
Hamburger Rieger is part of the Hamburger Containerboard division. The company describes itself as one of Europe's leading manufacturers of corrugated case materials. Hamburger Rieger operates seven plants and has a total containerboard capacity of 2 million tpy.
