Georgia-Pacific Receives its Boiler

Atlanta, Georgia, USA 12 January 2015 -- Our Green Bay, Wisconsin, facility recently welcomed an exciting new addition to the family - a 385,000-pound, 40-foot long . . . boiler!

At nearly 30 feet tall and 23 feet wide, a traditional stork wouldn't do - the boiler arrived on a 436-foot cargo ship on December 11. Tightly swaddled in a blue over-wrap, this behemoth bundle was a sight to behold. The precious cargo safely made it down the Fox River and then to our Broadway mill on December 19.

We're not just biased because it's our boiler, but we couldn't be more excited. The new natural gas boiler will produce steam for our mill's operations and generate power. It will replace our largest coal-fired boiler, helping us to reduce our air emissions, meet future regulations and modernize our facilities. After it's up and running in mid-2015, along with additional improvements at the mill, emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide will drop by 80 percent.

This and other recent sustainability investments at Green Bay total more than $80 million, helping to ensure the continuing viability of the mill, which is turning 96 this year. Boy, we have a lot to celebrate in Green Bay.
