Fraser Papers Announces Temporary Shutdown of Sawmills

Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 15 May 2007 --(CCNMatthews)-- Fraser Papers Inc. (TSX:FPS) announced today the temporary shutdown of its sawmills located in Juniper and Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, beginning 27 May 2007, due to weak market conditions.

The company expects these two mills, as well as the company's sawmill in Ashland, Maine, USA, which has been shut since 25 March, to be shut down for a four-week period depending on market conditions. The temporary shutdown of the New Brunswick sawmills affects approximately 350 employees.
