Fire at Louisiana Pacific Facility
Print

Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada 14 December 2017 -- (From news reports) -- Fort St. John firefighters were called out to the Louisiana Pacific's Peace Valley OSB mill Monday afternoon to help douse a fire that shot fireballs from the mill's exhaust pipes.

Firefighers were called out around 12:30 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Darrell Blades. Seventeen firefighters and three apparatus were on scene for around three-and-a-half hours.

The fire started above the mill's press, making it difficult to fight, and flared up several times throughout the afternoon through the stack.

"The simplest way to describe it was like a big chimney fire with limited access (to fight it)," Blades said.

Employees were evacuated during the fire and there were no injuries.

There was no immediate word on damages, or the cause of the fire. Representatives from the mill weren't immediately available for comment.
