DS Smith to Increase Capacities at Torrejón Plant

London, England 11 July 2016 -- DS Smith is investing in its Spanish Torrejón plant near Madrid. Corrugated board capacities are to be increased by 50 Mio m².

DS Smith has started work for the installation of a new corrugator at its Spanish Torrejón plant near Madrid. The measure will raise the site's capacity, which currently stands at 90 million m², by more than 50% to 140 million m², according to a company spokesperson. The new capacity would be used internally, he said, adding that the project would cost the company around €10m.

DS Smith produces corrugated board and corrugated board packaging at the Torrejón plant and employs around 150 people. The company sees growth potential in the Spanish and Portuguese corrugated board markets, which it said were strategically important for the group.

Only recently, DS Smith had announced the takeover of Portuguese company Gopaca. Gopaca produces corrugated board, corrugated board packaging as well as honeycomb board at its plant near Porto. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
