London, England 01 September 2015 -- The UK's largest coreboard producer may close its doors. DS Smith announced it is evaluating the closure of its 180,000 tpy Wansbrough site which also produces recycled paper.

DS Smith is considering the closure of its Wansbrough coreboard and recycled paper mill in the UK. The company said it has notified staff of the possible closure and is entering a period of consultation with employee representatives. All possible options for the future of the site will be taken into account. DS Smith did not say whether selling the mill will also be an option.

DS Smith explained that it decided on the closure after a review of the long-term economic outlook for the mill. The company did not want to disclose further details before completion of the consultation process.

The Wansbrough mill is situated in Watchet, Somerset. According to DS Smith, Wansbrough is the biggest manufacturer of coreboard in the UK. The mill also produces testliner III and recycled paper for envelopes and bags. The site has two machines with a combined capacity of approximately 180,000 tpy.
