Print

Alizay, France 14 August 2014 -- Double A is continuing the recovery process on the French Alizay site. The company has now brought back the Evolve paper brand.

After one year of activity in Alizay, Thai pulp and paper manufacturer Double A has started to produce recycled paper at the French site again. The company announced in August that production of the Evolve Everyday paper brand which had been stopped in 2011 was resumed at the beginning of July. For Double A, this is the first step into the recycled paper market.

The Evolve paper is an 80g office paper made from 100% recycled fibre. The paper machine in Alizay has a total capacity of 300,000 tpy of both recycled paper and uncoated fine paper. The Evolve paper is to be delivered to customers in France and Europe, but also in the US, Africa and the Middle East.

Production of the Evolve brand was originally started in 2008 but was then stopped in October 2011 when former owner Metsä Board decided to shut down the mill. Double A has been producing fine paper at the site since June 2013 after acquiring the paper operations at the beginning of the year. The company said it produced 100,000 t of uncoated woodfree paper in Alizay in 2013 and was aiming to reach full capacity in 2014.

As announced earlier, Double A is also planning to restart pulp production in the first half of 2015. The mill's pulp line, which had been closed down in 2010, has a capacity of 300,000 tpy. Double A said it would hire 100 employees to modernise and start-up the line. The mill currently employs 150 people.
