Burgo's Ardennes Mill Down Due to Fire

Vicenza, Italy 14 August 2015 -- A fire hit Burgo's Ardennes mill in Belgium. Pulp production is currently standing still while paper production remains unaffected.

Burgo was forced to halt pulp production at its Belgian Ardennes mill. A fire that broke out on 12 August damaged part of the pulp line, the company reported. Paper production is not affected and is continuing as normal, according to Burgo.

It is not yet clear for how long pulp production will be standing still. The company is in the process of assessing the extent of the damage. Media reports say the stoppage could extend to 15 days which Burgo denies, saying that production would be resumed earlier than that.

Burgo produces mixed hardwood kraft pulp with a capacity of 360,000 tpy as well as coated woodfree paper with a capacity of 350,000 tpy at the Ardennes mill.
